In Him...

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Yes, in Christ we find that the essence of life and the spirit of life that exists in mankind is really Him and that He is the one that illuminates our being. He is the author of our being. Maybe now we can better comprehend why He gave himself as a sacrifice for our sin because He had to repair our broken relationship with the Father. He was the one called from the trinity to rescue us from our fallen state because from the very beginning in Him was the light of man.

Make no mistake about it, Jesus Christ has had total ownership of mankind from the very beginning and so some day whether on this earth or in the hereafter every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is Lord.

So when we read John 1:4, we really see the proclamation of Jesus Christ as not only the creator of mankind but the light that causes us to exist. In some ways it is a scientific explanation as well as a spiritual explanation for our existence. Literally, His life was the life that was breathed into the body of Adam that made him a living soul.
